1st May 1994: An accident in the F1 Grand Prix race at Italy’s Imola Circuit brought the life of the gifted racing driver Ayrton Senna to an abrupt end at the age of 34. This was the sudden death of the brilliant driver who had mesmerised fans all over the world in his pursuit of speed, a man who had won multiple Grand Prix championships but kept a certain distance from the flashy world of racing.

Exactly 20 years from when the world went into mourning, Gran Turismo has created new content that follows his beginnings and motorsports career, the “Ayrton Senna Tribute”, under a partnership with the “Ayrton Senna Institute” non-profit organisation, which carries on the legacy and will of Ayrton to this day. This free update for "Gran Turismo 6" will be released in the latter half of May, exclusively on PlayStation®3.

The “Ayrton Senna Tribute” is a 4-part special content that retraces the life of Senna through various photographs and videos. Players will have the chance to relive Senna’s career first-hands by driving the same cars and challenging the same events that shaped his legend, such as the #17 DAP Racing Kart he drove to fight in the World Karting Championships and the "Black Beauty" (Senna's Lotus 97T F1 car) on tracks like the Brands Hatch GP circuit and the Italian circuit of Monza, which have been given a complete makeover in order to restore their original layouts from the '80s.

A special "Ayrton Senna Tribute" section opened on the 1st of May 2014, on gran-turismo.com, 20 years after the passing of Senna. Here you can follow the life of Senna through trailers and a 2-part slideshow, leading up to the release of even more content in the second half of May. We sincerely hope you will be joining Gran Turismo 6 in following the footsteps of one of the greatest racing drivers in history, who still lives strong in the hearts of many today.

To commemorate the partnership with Ayrton Senna Institute and Gran Turismo, a short documentary "Ayrton's Wish", is featured within the website. The film revolves around the Ayrton Senna Institute, which was established by Ayrton's sister Viviane who carried on his hopes and dreams after he passed away.

The film is directed by Tamir Moscovici, who also directed “KAZ: Pushing the Virtual Divide”, a movie created as part of the celebration for Gran Turismo's 15th Anniversary. "KAZ" won the "Best Long Format Featuring Promotional Content" category at the Game Marketing Awards 2014.

The “Ayrton Senna Tribute” was created with the full support of the Ayrton Senna Institute. The Ayrton Senna Institute is a non-profit organisation that was established in 1994 by Ayrton’s sister, Viviane, who carried forward his will after he passed away.

The Institute prepares more than 75,000 teachers and managers every year, and almost 2 million children and young people benefit directly from the work of these teachers, who are trained by the organisation, in more than 1300 municipalities in various regions in Brazil. Funded by its own resources, besides donations and private initiative partnerships, the Institute provides to public administration, free of charge, management services of the educational process. This process includes diagnosis, planning, training of managers and educators, development of innovative pedagogical and technological solutions, all linked with the purpose of promoting a full education to the entire development of children and young people in their multiple competencies. Due to significant results of its technologies and well-succeeded practices, the Institute has become a benchmark in the development of public policies.
