Akagi_1942mi Makes a Triumphant Return to Nissan!

The 'Gran Turismo World Series' 2023 Manufacturers Cup got underway on the 7th of June.

Round 1 took place on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya National Layout, and saw Ferrari's TX3_TenagaZaru-S go pole-to-win to top-score with 440 points.

Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta—a highly technical track—was the setting for Round 2. Akagi_1942mi—returning to Nissan this season after a lengthy absence—took the lead on the third lap, and went on to win. He scored 448 points for his efforts.

In the second race of the round, however, McLaren's TX3_Ra1g went pole-to-win, equalling Akagi_1942mi's haul of 448 points. TX3_Ra1g had also scored an impressive 439 points in the first round, and this performance allowed him to extend his lead at the top of the rankings.

Round 3 took place on the Nürburgring Endurance track, widely recognised as one of the world's trickiest courses. The conditions changed frequently throughout the race, leading to races that were packed with dramatic incidents.

Nürburgring master DW-yuhki02 made a spot entry in a Subaru. He made a mistake with his tyre choice in the first race, however, and almost immediately fell to the back of the pack. A tough race was eventually won by Australia's Dstinct_Andrew, who saw off Japan's Kerokkuma_ej20 in a two-way Subaru showdown.

In the second race of the round, Renault's Dstinct_Twitchy claimed a victory that was never really in doubt, securing 451 points in the process. DW-yuhki02, who had suffered such a disappointment in the first race, came second, with 432 points, thus restoring some pride and burnishing his Nürburgring reputation.

In the third race, Kerokkuma_ej20—who had lost the Subaru showdown in the previous race, delivered a steady performance to claim 432 points. It was a tough round, with the weather confounding even the very best drivers, all of whom did very well to reach the finish line among rain that no one had predicted.

In Round 4, which took place on Sardegna Road Track B, Kerokkuma_ej20—who had struggled for form in the early stages of the series—suddenly found his pace once more, going pole-to-win to secure 462 points and moving up the series leaderboard in the process.

Round 5 took place on the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps's 24-hour layout. Toyota's OA4life_ produced a magnificent performance to emerge victorious and score 443 points.

Watkins Glen Long Course was the setting for Round 6. BMW's LUA_CRV-86, who had been having a season of ups and downs, displayed overwhelming pace from the get go to qualify in pole position. He took this scintillating form into the final race as well, driving at the very limits of the track to build up a big lead and go pole-to-win for victory. He scored 447 points for his win, enough to see him rise up the leaderboard at last.

The final round took place on the Interlagos Circuit. With the battle for top spot on the leaderboard heating up, Nissan's Akagi_1942mi took pole position, and took advantage of a chaotic race behind him to build up a lead and cross the finish line in first place. Having scored 400 points on a consistent basis throughout the season, Akagi_1942mi emerged victorious overall, his return to Nissan proving to be a real fairytale. It was rather reminiscent of the 2018 Manufacturer's Series, when the Nissan-Akagi_1942mi combination was widely feared on the circuit. It seems the dream team is back in business!

Now we wait with bated breath to see who will come out on top at the World Series Showdown 2023 in Amsterdam!
