Paint
Livery Editor
To paint the car body, select 'Paint' from the menu screen.
At the bottom of the screen the following means of colour selection will be displayed.
From the Paint screen you can paint the entire body by selecting 'Body' and then 'Paint All', or you can paint the wheels by selecting 'Wheels'.
Once you have painted the entire car, you can then select various parts to paint individually: the body, the bonnet, the side mirrors, the rear wing, and other parts. By selecting 'Reset Colours' you can also reset the body to the default colour.
Paint options will vary depending on the car type.
Select Colour: Colour Palette
To apply paint, select your desired colour from the selection of colours. Previously used colours are also displayed at the bottom of the Colour Palette under Colour History.
Press the △ button to add a colour from the Colour History to your 'Favourites'. Use this feature to quickly access previously used colours.
Colour Picker
Use the Colour Picker to make subtle nuanced colour choices. Use the left stick to move the cursor over the colour scale bar, and then select the highlighted hue.
After selecting the hue, the colour gradient for that hue will be displayed below the colour scale bar. The top right portion of the colour gradient has high saturation and brightness, and heading towards the bottom left the saturation and brightness decreases. Use the left stick to move the cursor over the colour gradient, and set the desired saturation and brightness levels. Press the 'OK' button to confirm the colour.
You can also directly input HSV values into the Colour Picker to select a colour. Within the Colour Picker panel, adjust the individual sliders for the 'H', 'S' and 'V' values, and then press the 'OK' button to confirm the colour.
After closing and reopening the Colour Picker, the currently set paint colour will be displayed just below the colour gradient. When selecting a new colour, it will be shown on the right hand side of this area next to the previous colour. Use this feature to compare paint colours.
Paint Type
Select a paint type. You have the following three choices:
Solid
Paint without any metallic or pearl elements.
Metallic
Paint containing aluminium pigment, giving it a sparkling reflective appearance.
Pearl
Paint containing mica powder, giving it a pearly lustre.
Special Colours
Paints with other properties, such as gloss or matte finishes, can be found here. Special colours can be purchased from the Customise Cars menu under GT Auto.
After you have finished selecting a colour, press the 'OK' button to finalise the paint job.
After you have painted the entire car, you will be able to select various parts to paint individually (e.g. Body/Body 2/Side Mirrors/Rear Wing/Other).
Select the part of the body you'd like to paint. (Areas that are available to paint will vary depending on the car's design.)
After selecting the part you'd like to paint from the Paint screen, pressing the R3 will highlight that part of the car model light blue. Use this feature to confirm the area the paint will cover.
The method of painting individual parts is otherwise the same as Paint All. After you have finished with your 'Select Colour' and 'Paint Type' choices, select the 'OK' button to finalise the paint job.
The following functions may also be helpful while painting.
・Right stick: Rotate camera to view the car body from various angles
・L2 button, R2 button: Zoom camera
・R1 + Left stick: Move camera
Lastly, use the 'Save', 'Overwrite' or 'Save As' buttons to save your design.
After saving your livery with the Livery Editor, you can share it by selecting 'Share' from 'GT Auto' -> 'Customise Cars' -> 'Save Style'.
