Spanish Sensation Jose Serrano (TDG_JOSETE) Wins Qualifiers by a Hair!
Wednesday, 17 April, saw the opening of the ‘Gran Turismo World Series' 2024 Online Qualifiers — Nations Cup.’
Round 1 was held at the 24 Heures du Mans Racing Circuit, where, rising from 3rd on the grid, Italy’s Valerio Gallo (OP_BRacer) took the top spot with a daring leap into the Indianapolis corner on his first lap, thereafter increasing his lead to the finish line and racking up a whopping 482 points.
Round 2 at Watkins Glen’s Long Course saw Spain’s Jose Serrano (TDG_JOSETE) build a two-second lead into a pole-to-win finish that netted him 481 points and unseated Gallo from the top spot in the points ranking.
Round 3 was a stellar road-car rodeo at the legendary Trial Mountain Circuit, where new and old faces pulled out all the stops. Despite falling to 4th in the qualifiers, French whiz kid Kylian Drumont (R8G_Kylian19) prevailed in what was a tough contest against several more experienced racers.
In Round 4, which was fought on the reverse layout of Lago Maggiore's full course, Serrano went from 2nd to 1st, earning him 466 points and firmly securing his spot at the top of the points ranking.
Round 5’s high-speed battle between Gr.1 cars took place on the Daytona Road Course, where French super-rookie PRiMA_Juju34 rode a seven-second lead to victory. Though the leading drivers did not compete in this race, there is no doubt it resulted in an exceedingly valuable win for PRiMA_Juju34.
With few of the leading drivers entering, the final round at Spa-Francorchamps saw Drumont attempt to improve his standing, earning himself 422 points, which ultimately placed him 4th in the points ranking.
After six rounds, it was Spain's Jose Serrano who won the series with his steady pacing. Second place went to Italy's Valerio Gallo, Serrano's main competitor to the end, with third going to Dutch racer Kaj de Bruin (R8G_Kajracer), who maintained a high points ranking throughout the series.
