Le Mans Results Overturned, GT Academy Winners Move Up to 3rd Place
Following a re-inspection of the vehicles that raced the 90th 24 Hours of LeMans held on the 22nd-23rd of June, a breach of regulation was found in the fuel tank of G-Drive Racing's car #26 (Oreca 03/Nissan). In light of this, the ACO (Automobile Club de l'Ouest) excluded this car from the official rankings and revoked their 3rd place finish (9th overall) in the LMP2 Class.
As a result, the race rankings were moved up and the previously 4th placed Greaves Motorsports car #42 driven by the GT Academy team (Lucas Ordóñez, Jann Mardenborough and Michael Krumm in a Zytek Z11SN/Nissan) was promoted onto the podium. Car #26 and Car #42 were rivals which fought furiously against one another for 10 straight hours during the race. This turn of events allowed Jann Mardenborough to follow in the footsteps of Lucas, who also achieved a podium finish in his first LeMans challenge 2 years ago.
Though it was too late for a champagne fight to celebrate the 3rd place result, Lucas and Jann had left another glorious mark in the GT Academy history.
