On May 30, 1916, Peugeot won the legendary “Indianapolis 500 Mile Race” with its L45 race car. One hundred years later, we pay homage to that achievement by bringing you the Peugeot L500R HYbrid Vision Gran Turismo.
Filled with the latest technology, the L500R HYbrid Vision Gran Turismo features sharp styling cues and an incredibly low profile. With even the bulge that covers the cockpit kept to a minimum, the car stands a mere 1 m tall. The tail section was inspired by the old L45 race car, ending in a streamlined shape with three distinctive rear lamp claws similar to that of the 3008, which is a Peugeot design cue today.
The cockpit utilizes a near-future user interface, with two holograms displaying a variety of information to the driver. Unlike the L45, the L500R is a single seater—the navigator has been replaced with a virtual navigator in this concept.
The L500R is powered by a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine and two electric motors. Total output is 493 HP and maximum torque is 5,280 ft-lb. Utilizing the latest lightweight materials, the car weighs only 2,205 lbs. All this allows the Peugeot race car to run from 0-100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and to the 1,000 m-mark in just 19 seconds.
Peugeot has participated in many forms of motorsports all over the world, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, WRC and Rally Raids. This innovative machine represents the company’s spirit and passion for competition.
From Peugeot who brought you the ‘Peugeot Vision Gran Turismo’ in June 2015, two new machines have been unveiled: The ‘L500R HYbrid Vision Gran Turismo’ and the ‘L750R HYbrid Vision Gran Turismo’
