Featured Cars Introduction
GR Supra Race Car '19
The Supra returns after 17 years away. This racing version competed at the Nürburgring in 2019.
The GR Supra is Toyota's flagship sportscar which made a comeback in 2019 after being out of production for 17 years. Inheriting the traditional rear wheel drive and inline 6 cylinder engine, Toyota selected BMW as a development partner and evolved the car into a 21st century pure sportscar with 2 seats, an advanced chassis and twin scroll turbo.
The GR Supra showed itself for the first time at the Nürburgring 24 hour race in 2018, a year before its release. Under the slogan 'To make even better cars', it also entered the SP8T class in 2019 after its release.
With Masahiro Sasaki, Uwe Kleen, Herwig Daenens, and Morizo at the wheel, they started the final race from 99th place, and raised their position steadily, avoiding the numerous accidents that happened at the beginning of the race. 8 hours into the race, they were involved in a contact incident with a car from a higher class, but the car drove on to finish the race in a respectable 41st place overall, and 3rd in its class.
This is a car that has created the impression of the GR Supra, as a true competition sports car.
Subaru WRX Gr.4
A model stemming from the Impreza in pursuit of speed and the fun of driving.
The Subaru WRX, announced in the autumn of 2013, is a mid-class saloon that became independent from the Impreza series. The WRX was a grade model that was traditionally given to high performance versions of the Impreza, but the name has now become a new car model. The new model is, of course, a high performance sports sedan that follows in the footsteps of the Impreza WRX.
Its platform is basically the same as the Subaru Levorg, but due to the differences between an estate and a saloon and the expected types of driving conditions, the WRX body is significantly reinforced. The line-up includes a sporty STI model and a grand touring type S4. Both models are 4WD and the power unit is the iconic flat 4 turbo. However, between the STI and the S4, the centre differential and even the power steering mechanism is different. Although they are both equipped with 2 litre flat 4 engines, the engine itself is different. Subaru went out of their way to clarify the differences between the two cars.
The high performance STI is equipped with the EJ20 engine that has been put through some thorough development, producing 303.7 BHP and 43.0 kgfm. The transmission is a reinforced 6-speed MT and the driver controlled centre differential combines an electronically controlled LSD and a mechanical LSD. A Helical LSD is equipped for the front wheels, while the rear utilises a Torsen LSD. The power steering is a hydraulic type that places an emphasis on steering feel. The suspension is obviously developed individually for the car. In the end, making the WRX an independent model of its own gave the developers of the car the freedom to really pursue overall performance.
*This model was specially tuned to meet Gr.4 regulations by Gran Turismo.
MAZDA3 Gr.4
Exploring the potential of internal combustion, a next-generation bio-diesel powered race car.
This MAZDA3 Gr. 4, as featured, is a Gran Turismo original model, aesthetically based on the Super Taikyu spec. MAZDA3 Bio concept.
The MAZDA3 Bio concept this car is based on is a next-generation bio-diesel fuelled racing car that was created and developed for real world testing in the 2023 Super Taikyu endurance racing series.
It is essentially the successor to Mazda's Bio concept Demio/MAZDA2 Bio concept which had been running since 2021 with the aim of achieving a true balance of carbon neutrality and joy in driving. Both cars were entered in the ST-Q class which is almost exclusively reserved for manufacturer development models.
For fuel, the car uses a 100% next-generation bio-diesel made from used cooking oil. The engine used is a 2.2L SkyActiv-D unit.
The car itself of course has also been modified. In order to reduce weight, areas such as the engine hood and roof employ hybrid materials which employ a mix of CFRP and natural fibres. Also, to improve aerodynamic performance, the front and rear fenders have been widened and new aero parts like the front spoiler, rear wing and side skirts have been fitted.
