The 12th GT Award Goes to the “1970 Chevrolet Camaro”
The Gran Turismo Awards SEMA (GT Awards hereafter) selects the finest custom car out of the cars on display at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show held in Las Vegas, Nevada. On the 6th of November, the final selection for the 12th annual GT Awards took place, where Gran Turismo series producer Kazunori Yamauchi selected the “GoPro 'Rampage' 1970 Camaro” for the grand “Best in Show” award.
Once again this year, the individual categories of the GT Awards were judged by famous media and motor journalists of the US. Out of the fantastic machines that filled the convention center halls, the following 5 cars were selected as category winners:
- Best Truck / SUV: 1952 Chevrolet Pickup (Owner: Tyler Scarfe)
- Best Domestic Car: GoPro 'Rampage' 1970 Chevrolet Camaro (Owner: Jeremy Gerber)
- Best Asian Import: Nissan GT-R (Owner: Ernie Manansala)
- Best European Import: 2013 Volkswagen HPA FT740 Twin Turbo (Owner: Marcel Horn)
- Best Hotrod: 1957 Chevrolet (Owner: Jeff Lutz)
On the night of 6th of November, the final selection of GT Awards started over at the Cromwell hotel near the SEMA Convention Center. Kazunori Yamauchi, who checked the nominees carefully during the day, selected the GoPro 'Rampage' 1970 Chevrolet Camaro out of the 5 category winners.
The GoPro 'Rampage' 1970 Chevrolet Camaro is a car that personifies the spirit of the SEMA show. In this machine, the ultimate V8 of the Corvette, the LS7 is tuned to 750 BHP and fitted under the bonnet of an older Camaro. Aside from the structure, most of the body with its massive overfenders and rear wing has been replaced with carbon panels. The mounting of the shock absorber unit is modified with links and positioned under the bonnet so that damper adjustments are easy.
This super-Camaro was reborn in modern day, leaping across over 40 years of history, and by the rules of the GT Awards, will be included in a future edition of Gran Turismo.
Meanwhile, there were other interesting cars involving Gran Turismo on the showfloor of SEMA this year. The BMW M4 M Performance Edition (with a specially customised exterior by Gran Turismo) was on display at the BMW booth. This car is based on the M4 Coupé, garnished with parts from the M Performance lineup. In addition to carbon front lips and rear spoiler, the blacked out kidney grill and side grill sets it apart from your ordinary M4. In Gran Turismo, this special car was customised as a Safety Car used for racing, adding a competitive look in BMW motorsports colours. The BMW M4 M Performance Edition will appear in Gran Turismo 6 soon through an upcoming update.
