The third stage of the Nations Cup got underway on June 9th. Japan's Akagi_1942mi had been utterly dominant in the Asia region thus far, but his fellow countryman Kerokkuma_ej20 had displayed great form since last year's world finals, and was building up an impressive points total of his own.
Akagi_1942mi took part in Rounds 21, 23 and 26, but couldn't add to his points total. Kerokkuma_ej20, on the other hand, took 2,872 points in Round 24 to increase the pressure on the leader.
The final race of the stage was a head-to-head tussle between the top 16 drivers, using Gr. 2 cars on the Mount Panorama circuit. Kerokkuma_ej20 proved fastest in qualifying, and took pole position. Akagi_1942mi started just behind him in second place, but was unable to catch the leader. Akagi_1942mi pushed especially hard on the final lap, breathing down Kerokkuma_ej20's neck, but the latter was just about able to hold him off, securing the win and 3,335 points.
Stage 3 saw Akagi_1942mi display some strategic weaknesses, but although his crown wobbled a little he was still able to retain his position at the top of the pile.
