Applying Decals

Livery Editor

To apply decals to the car body, select "Decal" from the menu screen.

You can select a part to decal from the editing area on the left side of the editing screen.

This is where you can select a decal texture. You will be able to select various parts to decal individually (e.g. Body/Body 2/Side Mirrors/Rear Wing/Windows/Windshield Banner/Other). Areas to which decals can be applied will vary depending on the car type.

A layering system is used to allow decals to do things such as overlap. In order to start working on a decal, select "Add Layer" from the panel on the right-hand side of the editing screen.

The following rules apply to layers and decals:

・There is a limit to the number of layers that can overlap in any given place.
・There is a limit to the number of decals that can be applied to a car. (If a decal is reused in different positions or in different layers, it will only be counted as one decal towards this limit.)

Decal Selection

Selecting "Add Layer" will present you with the following options:

Select Camera
Select from "Left", "Right", "Front", "Rear" and "Roof". Then select the part you'd like to decal.

Select Decal
Here you will be given a choice of selecting a preset decal, a decal that you have uploaded using the Decal Uploader, or a decal that has been made public in the Discover gallery. Please refer to the "Livery Editor" -> "Decal Uploader" section of this manual for more details.

・Decal Editing

From the Decal Editing Screen, you can use the following controls to adjust the size and placement of the decal:

・Left stick: Move
・Right stick: Scale (Enlarge/Shrink)
・L2 button/R2 button: Rotate
・L1 button: Modify (Some decals cannot be modified)
・R1 button: Control camera
・L3 button: Reset rotation (Return a rotated decal to its original horizontal angle)
・R3 button: Skew (Return a skewed decal to its original orientation and ratio)

Hold down the □ button while using any of the above controls to perform editing actions in slow motion.
Press the △ button to directly adjust the magnification ratio (vertical/horizontal), degree of rotation and opacity.

・Decal Settings

Once you have applied your decal, you will proceed to the Decal Settings Screen. Here you can carry out the following actions:

Projection Range
Select the application behavior of the decal from the following options:

Align with Surface
The decal will automatically cling to and follow the contours of the body. A good option for applying things such as logos.

Align with Camera
Set the direction from which you'd like to project the decal. A good option for creating a perfectly straight stripe unaffected by the contours of the body.

Limit Angle
Adjusts decal behavior for wrapping around the curves and bends of the body. Moving the slider to the right will allow the decal to wrap around elements such as the bends of the fender's tire house or around to the underside of the rear spoiler. A useful feature for applying shapes such as stripes to the body.

Limit Depth
Adjusts to what extent the projected decal wraps towards the opposite facing plane. For instance, in the case of a decal placed on the side of the car, moving the slider to the right will cause the decal to penetrate the surface towards the opposite side, also wrapping around to the rear of the body in the process. An effective feature when applying two tone paint schemes to the body.

Layer Controls

While editing a decal you can carry out the following actions (logos and some other decals cannot be flipped):

Duplicate on Opposite Side
Copy the decal to a new layer on the opposite side of the body. Useful for copying a logo to the opposite side.

Duplicate Symmetrically
The same as "Duplicate on Opposite Side", except that the decal is also flipped on the horizontal axis.

Duplicate
Copy this decal to the same location on a new separate layer.

Flip Horizontally
Flip decal on the horizontal axis.

Flip Vertically
Flip decal on the vertical axis.

Decal Color

Apply paint to the decal. This option will not be displayed for some decals, such as logos.

Edit Decal
Continue editing the selected decal.

Finish Editing Layer
Finish editing the current layer.

After you have finished editing, you will be returned the editing screen. If you look on the right hand side at the Layer Area panel, you will see your finished decal. If you want to add another decal, select "Add Layer". In this way you can add multiple decals to a car to create numerous unique liveries. The number of current layers and the maximum number of layers allowed are displayed on the upper right of the editing screen. (The maximum number of layers allowed will vary depending on the section of the car.)

・Edit Layers

Every new decal applied will create a layer, visible in the Layer Area panel on the right hand side of the editing screen. In cases where layers overlap, the display order is very important. Always keep in mind that layers displayed towards the top of the list will also be displayed on the car above layers towards the bottom of the list.

Selecting a layer in the Layer Area panel and pressing △ button will present you the following options:

Delete Layer
Delete this layer.

Hide Layer
Hide this layer.

Add Layer Above
Add a new layer just above this layer.

Add Layer Below
Add a new layer just below this layer.

Duplicate Layer
Duplicate this layer.

Move Layer
Move the selected layer up and down in the Layer Area panel. Moving a layer in this manner will allow you to change the display order of overlapping decals.

Replace Decal
Select another decal from My Library to replace the existing one, in exactly the same position.

・Preview

Once you have finished your livery design, select "Preview" to view the finished product from various angles.
Press the △ button select a background. This way you will be able to check out your creation in different conditions.

・Save

Lastly, use the "Save", "Overwrite" or "Save As" buttons to save your design.

・Share

After saving your livery with the Livery Editor, you can share it by selecting "Share" from "GT Auto" -> "Car Customize" -> "Save Style".
