The Semi-Final Group A race featured Gr.3 cars at the Autodromo Lago Maggiore.
Starting in pole position, Brazil’s Igor Fraga (IOF_RACING17), the odds-on favorite to take the title, got off to a great start in his Volkswagen GTI VGT, quickly stretching his lead over Chilean Fabián Portillas (FT_Mcqueen91), who was running in a Toyota FT1 VGT.
Right behind them, a fierce battle for 3rd place was unfolding as Canadian Jeffrey Gallan (FT_LLOYDZELITE) was desperately holding off Great Britain’s Adam Suswillo (GTP_Aderrrm), Spain’s Coque López (Williams_Coque14) and Japan’s Tomoaki Yamanaka (yamado_racing38).
On Lap 4, the group battling for 3rd place got caught up in traffic coming out of the pits, dropping them back from the two leaders of the race. On Lap 7, the front runners made their final pit stop.
In the final stage of the race, López (Williams_Coque14) showed a spurt of speed as he passed Portillas (FT_Mcqueen91) to grab 2nd place.
In the end, however; it was the South American regional finalist, Fraga (IOF_RACING17), who finished on top.
