Honda has always focused on human-centric development when pursuing new values in its automobiles, and the Honda Sports Vision Gran Turismo, created in collaboration with Gran Turismo, is no exception. A video in which you can see the newly developed sports car is now available.

This pure sports car was created through Gran Turismo, the Real Driving Simulator. It comes from Honda’s corporate culture for making products that "look fun."

The car took form after Honda held a competition with its designers from all over the world. A team from the Los Angeles studio was declared the winner. The team members were later joined by other Japanese and U.S. designers, giving the car an international flavor. A quarter-scale model was built in the U.S., while the modelling data and hardware were developed in Japan. With teams from each region coming together, many designers said that they enjoyed participating in the project.

Honda Sports Vision Gran Turismo showcases Honda’s "Human Centered Design" direction, evidenced by the placement of the driver, engine and tires. These elements determine the structure of the car, and the design and proportions of the exterior make the car appear as though it is in constant motion. It emits a strong presence on the road with its artfully sculpted body, wide fenders with air intakes, and wheels combining beauty and functionality.

Using many carbon-fiber components, the total weight of the car is kept to a mere 899 kg. The mid-mounted 1998cc engine combines a turbocharged inline-4 with Honda’s iconic DOHC-VTEC, producing 410ps/7500 rpm. This power is transferred firmly to the ground through an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.

In terms of aerodynamics, the design was tested not only with computer simulations, but also by placing a full scale model into a wind tunnel. By doing so, optimum aerodynamic performance was achieved, with the ideal flow of air around the body, through the underfloor and as well as over the cabin and engine room.
