Ten years ago today, the first Gran Turismo™ was released for the original PlayStation® in North America. With revolutionary features such as realistic driving physics and in-depth car customization, Gran Turismo ushered in a new era and changed the way people thought about racing games, earning millions of fans in the process.

The Gran Turismo series has grown alongside the PlayStation® consoles, with the first two in the series launching on PlayStation® game console, Gran Turismo 3 and Gran Turismo 4 on PlayStation®2 system, and most recently Gran Turismo 5 Prologue on PLAYSTATION®3 system. With each new game, the Gran Turismo series has raised the bar for realistic graphics and driving physics. And with the release of Gran Turismo™ 5 Prologue, which continues to push the envelope with more revolutionary features such as Gran Turismo TV, the Gran Turismo series has now shipped over 50 million units worldwide over the past 10 years.
