Paint
Livery Editor
To paint the car body, select "Paint" from the menu screen.
At the bottom of the screen the following means of color selection will be displayed.
From the Paint screen you can paint the entire body by selecting "Body" and then "Paint All", or you can paint the wheels by selecting "Wheels".
Once you have painted the entire car, you can then select various parts to paint individually: the body, the hood, the side mirrors, the rear wing, and other parts. By selecting "Reset Colors" you can also reset the body to the default color.
Paint options will vary depending on the car type.
Select Color: Color Palette
To apply paint, select your desired color from the selection of colors. Previously used colors are also displayed at the top of the Color Palette under Color History.
Press the △ button to add a color from the Color History to your "Favorites". Use this feature to quickly access previously used colors.
Color Picker
Use the Color Picker to make subtle nuanced color choices. Use the left stick to move the cursor over the color scale bar, and then select the highlighted hue.
After selecting the hue, the color gradient for that hue will be displayed below the color scale bar. The top right portion of the color gradient has high saturation and brightness, and heading towards the bottom left the saturation and brightness decreases. Use the left stick to move the cursor over the color gradient, and set the desired saturation and brightness levels. Press the "OK" button to confirm the color.
You can also directly input HSV values into the Color Picker to select a color. Within the Color Picker panel, adjust the individual sliders for the "H", "S" and "V" values, and then press the "OK" button to confirm the color.
After closing and reopening the Color Picker, the currently set paint color will be displayed just below the color gradient. When selecting a new color, it will be shown on the right hand side of this area next to the previous color. Use this feature to compare paint colors.
Paint Type
Select a paint type. You have the following three choices:
Solid
Paint without any metallic or pearl elements.
Metallic
Paint containing aluminum pigment, giving it a sparkling reflective appearance.
Pearl
Paint containing mica powder, giving it a pearly luster.
Special Color
Paints with other properties, such as gloss or matte finishes, can be found here. Special colors can be purchased from the Car Customization menu under GT Auto.
After you have finished selecting a color, press the "OK" button to finalize the paint job.
After you have painted the entire car, you will be able to select various parts to paint individually (e.g. Body/Body 2/Side Mirrors/Rear Wing/Other).
Select the part of the body you'd like to paint. (Areas that are available to paint will vary depending on the car's design.)
After selecting the part you'd like to paint from the Paint screen, pressing the R3 will highlight that part of the car model light blue. Use this feature to confirm the area the paint will cover.
The method of painting individual parts is otherwise the same as Paint All. After you have finished with your "Select Color" and "Paint Type" choices, select the "OK" button to finalize the paint job.
The following functions may also be helpful while painting.
・Right stick: Rotate camera to view the car body from various angles
・L2 button, R2 button: Zoom camera
・R1 + Left stick: Move camera
Lastly, use the "Save", "Overwrite" or "Save As" buttons to save your design.
After saving your livery with the Livery Editor, you can share it by selecting "Share" from "GT Auto" -> "Customize Cars" -> "Save Style".
